Winemaker Notes
Camartina is made and released only if the vintage reaches a very good quality level. Camartina was not produced in 1989, in 1992, and in 1998 since the wine maker decided the quality was not sufficient. Camartina should be served between 59°64° F (15°18° C.)
Winemaking
The grapes are carefully picked and harvested in 8-kilo crates. They are destemmed, not crushed, and then transferred into temperature controlled stainless steel vats. Here, alcoholic fermentation and maceration as well as malolactic fermentation take place. Maceration lasts 12 days for the Sangiovese and up to 20 days for the Cabernet Sauvignon.
After the macerations, the wine is transferred to 100% French oak barrels. The wine is regularly racked and tasted during the barrel maturation. After one year, the best lots are assembled into the final blend and they remain in the barrels for an additional year. After this process, wine is bottled and rests six months before release.
Depending on the vintage, Camartina reaches maturity between 4 and 7 years after harvest. The plateau lasts until at least 15 years after harvest.

September 01, 2005 - Maisons Marques & Domaines USA Inc. proudly announces a distribution partnership with Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni of the renowned estate, Agricola Querciabella. Located in Tuscany, the winery produces award-winning wines that are known throughout the world.
Querciabella was founded in 1974 by Giuseppe Castiglioni, a collector of French wines and the owner of the largest collection of Louis Roederer Cristal throughout Italy. With the recent passing of their founder, the property is now managed and owned by second generation Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni who carries with him the fundamental philosophy of Querciabella. Sebastiano Cossia Castiglioni remarks Querciabella is dedicated to producing among the finest Italian wines my father instilled in me that quality begins in the vineyard and with minimal intervention one can produce a wine that is truly a reflection of its terroir. Querciabella wines are all estate bottled and made from selected grapes from the Southeast and Southwest-facing vineyards located high on the hilltop of Ruffoli, in Greve in Chianti.

The wines of Querciabella will be available in all US markets by the end of September: 2003 Querciabella Chianti Classico, 2001 Camartina and the 2003 Batàr.

Querciabella began with a few hectares of vineyard and a few old buildings in Greve in Chianti. Since then the estate has expanded to almost 500 acres (of which 65 are vineyards in the Chianti Classico region, and 90 are vineyards in Maremma), and a state of the art winery. Nowadays, Querciabella is managed by Giuseppes son Sebastiano and both viticulture and wine making techniques follow strict biodynamic standards. The grapes are rigorously selected from low yielding vines with the emphasis placed on concentration and richness from nature. The most advanced technologies are put to use to respect and exalt the fruit and not to manipulate it. The choice of special custom made barriques is handled personally by Sebastiano, like the selection of elements that make up the final blends.
